States now looking into Puerto Rican debt situation. Specifically, Massachusetts is looking at the impact of Puerto Rican debt on mutual fund investors and has communicated with Fidelity, Oppenheimer, and UBS. It appears that Massachussetts wants to determine whether these firms and their advisors adequately informed investors of risks of investing in Puerto Rico. Great that Massachussets has opened this inquiry and sad that only a handful of states take investor protection as seriously as Massachussets.
